"The northwest Pacific coast of North America is an excting place. Through most of its capes and bays nature rules and probably always will. The great ocean swells build up on their journey from Japan. The coastal mountains have been chopped into a ragged and forbidding shoreline. Therefore all of the living things that have evolved to fit that environment can live their lives almost without human contact. This is the domain of the bald eagle. They have fish to feed on and great trees to nest in. What more would they need?

I have been lucky enough to explore parts of the coast of British Columbia and Alaska by float plane. We fly low enough to appreciate the details of the cliffs, islands and forests visiting places with our eyes that we could never dream of visiting with our feet. In fact, we fly at eagle height. We can for a time be an eagle scanning the land below. However, our eyes don't compare to those of an eagle for sharpness.  A dead fish on the rocks below would be clear to an eagle bu tinvisible to us. But, for a short while I feel privileged to be given eagle wings, if only in my imagination."
