"The cougar is truly American in distribution. It may be found in nearly all wild habitats from the tip of South America almost to Alaska. From high mountains to wet forests and dry deserts, this cat can make its home as long as there are deer, rabbits or other prey to eat. Relatively large, secluded areas are essential. Of course, the most important factor of the cougar's life is safety from the guns and traps of man."
